Helping You Borrow Responsibly
Tips for Current Students
Borrowers with more than one student loan should probably stay with the same lender, particularly when entering repayment. With one lender, you only need to contact one source when making loan payments, requesting deferment or making other loan inquiries. Keep Your Loan Records File all your student loan records in a safe place. Knowing the owner of your loans and the borrowed amount will be very useful when entering repayment. Thinking Ahead to Repayment Stafford Loan borrowers have six months after leaving school until they must begin repaying their student loans. You can use this time to save some money and get a head start on payments or look into combining and possibly lowering payments. The owner of the loan(s) often provides ways for borrowers to save on their interest rate with borrower benefits. A simple fact of student loan borrowing is that you have very little control over who may eventually own your loans, but it is possible to "shop" around for substantial benefits. If you have more than one loan with a variety of lenders, you may wish to apply for a Consolidation Loan.
